Steel safebox ark3/23/2023 ![]() CDM has earned more than 91 percent repeat business because we’re more than just a conveying systems manufacturer – we’re a business partner.Metal is mined from many types of rocks. A custom-engineered conveying system is a cost-effective approach to any operation willing to look at the value of having a partner who is vested in your success and one who stands by their product. The CDM story is about recognizing every industrial operation is different, as are their conveying challenges. There are a lot of factors that make up the perfect fit for your specific plant. That’s why we make our equipment custom-ordered, only after we understand the needs of your facility. A knowledgeable and experienced partner could be a major influence in purchasing the perfect gate, valve and diverter.ĬDM understands that one-size-fits-all is a recipe for disaster. No matter the steel, find a conveyor system manufacturer that works hand-in-hand with you throughout the process. Stainless steel is a great choice if the material you handle is moist or corrosive with low abrasive properties (such wet fly ash, gravel, fertilizer, etc.) and/or the surrounding area of your plant could have a lot of moisture.įor example, it’s a good option if you run a fertilizer plant in Mississippi or handle petroleum coke in a wet outdoor environment like Oregon. (Quick science lesson: oxidation is a chemical transformation when the steel changes its properties when it’s exposed to oxygen, causing it to rust.) However, it’s not as strong as carbon steel. Therefore, the outer layer of chromium protects it against rusting. It doesn’t rust because it’s protected against the oxidation process because it contains at least 10.5% of chromium. ![]() Stainless steel’s strengths and weaknesses are somewhat a mirror image of carbon steel. This could be a solid option if, for example, you run a quarry in Indiana or handle cement in Minnesota. AR steel tends to come in between 235-550BHN.ĪR steels are a great choice to build a gate, valve or diverter if you deal with high abrasive, low corrosive materials. Well, on the Brinell scale – which measures the hardness of steel, with the higher the number meaning the harder it is – mild carbon (130-160BHN) and stainless steel (160-200BHN) are relatively similar. Not quite as resistant to rusting as stainless steel, but also stronger and harder. This best-of-both-worlds combination results in a steel that is somewhat in the middle: Not quite as strong as carbon steel but better resistance to rusting. AR steels feature the strength from adding carbon along with a resistance to oxidization from added alloys. Mild carbon steel is a great choice if you handle dry and non-corrosive materials (such as grains, rice, frac sand, etc.) and the surrounding area of your plant doesn’t have a lot of moistureįor example, mild carbon steel is a good choice if you run a rice plant in California or a grains facility in Colorado.Ībrasion-resistant steel: Abrasion-resistant steel is a high-carbon steel that’s been hardened. It’s strength and hardness also mean it’s less malleable than other steels – making it more likely to crack when under extreme stress. However, mild carbon steel is more susceptible to rusting and corrosion if exposed to heavy moisture. This comes in handy if you’re dealing with mild to moderately abrasive materials or high temperatures. The upside of mild carbon steel is it’s stronger and harder than other forms of steel. Mild Carbon Steel: Carbon steel has a higher carbon content (duh) – around 0.05 to. Should you use mild carbon steel, abrasion-resistant (AR) steel or a form of stainless steel for your gates, valves and diverters? Carbon Steel Let’s make it simpler and look at one aspect of the decision process: It’s like standing in the toothpaste aisle deciding between hundreds of brands. With so many options, it gets overwhelming if you aren’t an expert. The tricky part is figuring out the perfect fit. The good thing about customizable process flow systems for bulk material handling is the freedom to make sure the equipment is a perfect fit.

Two point hospital ps53/23/2023 If it were to feel like you were fighting with the controls the whole time, it would drain all the fun out of the game - but, again, because the game feels intuitive, it’s constantly fun. There are a lot of hospitals at your disposal in this game - on top of all the locations available in the regular Two Point Hospital, there are four expansions included here, which include about two dozen new hospitals and several new scenarios. Which is a good thing, because the “Jumbo” part of the title is well-earned. Even though you’re charged with building and staffing an entire hospital, the game somehow never overwhelms you with hard-to-read menus, nor does it make it a massive chore to design things exactly as you want. Two Point Hospital isn’t just charming and funny, it’s also highly addictive, largely because of how well its controls work on the Switch. Sure it looked fun - and the base version that came out last year was well-received - but would it really be worthwhile?Īctually, that’s pretty much my longer answer, too. Given that my previous attempts at playing a hospital sim on the Switch were disastruous, I went into Two Point Hospital: Jumbo Edition with somewhat low expectations. ![]() ![]() It doesn’t matter if we’re talking Tropico, or Civilization, or even Kerbal Space Program, you can always see the compromises that have been made to get text- and menu-heavy games to work with more traditional gaming controls. As much as I enjoy playing management sims, I’ve noticed there’s a pretty common thread that runs through all of them: when you play them on consoles - be it PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch - they don’t seem to run or play quite as smoothly as I assume they do on PC. Super monkey ball banana mania engine3/22/2023 Those yellow delicacies are now currency for the point shop. The physics are much less forgiving than in the original games, and even if you beat the level in the end, it isn’t without frustration.ĭue to the lack of lives, there is a new incentive for collecting all the bananas scattered around. Unless you are on the perfect angle and pushing forward at the right angle, you will fall. Move too hard to the right, and you fall out. There is very little room for error, move too hard to the left, you hit a bumper. What is a problem is how the new physics engine takes longer to get used to.įor example, in the World 8 level, Wrap, players must roll straight while holding the opposite direction of a downward slope without hitting bumpers on the opposite side. Since newer controllers do not have analog gates, this is not the fault of Banana Mania. The Gamecube in particular was perfect with it’s octagonal analog gate that helps players roll straight. This can be attributed to the game being developed on the Unity engine, which is different than what Sega utilized 20 years ago. Due to the brevity of the scenes, lack of any dialogue to make sense of what’s going on, or the sterile presentation, it’s a major letdown to fans of the original story mode.ĭespite the lack of a life system, Banana Mania is surprisingly much harder than any of the original games. Unfortunately, instead of reusing the original colorful and cheesy scenes, the game resorts to simplistic cutout animations without much personality. AiAi and his friends are watching a TV show which retells the story of the second game. Before and after each of the 10 worlds, there’s a short cutscene. There are 100 levels spread through 10 worlds that players must complete. The game takes the original story mode from Super Monkey Ball 2 without much flair. The Story mode, however, feels rather derivative. Despite missing from the release, the Challenge mode is still as solid as it was. The original game allowed players to conquer levels simultaneously, and the sequel, while not as robust, allowed controller alternating. One of my personal pet peeves with Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania is the lack of multiplayer in the Challenge mode. With 300 different levels to conquer, there’s a lot of mileage for anyone daring to conquer the challenge. The harder the difficulty, the more levels players must overcome to reach the end. Challenge mode is straightforward, as each of the original two games have three sets of levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Expert. The main game is comprised of two modes: Challenge and Story. ![]() Not to mention if the helper feature is on, hidden levels are inaccessible, so it’s best to leave the feature off. There are many rotating platforms that require the utmost precision, which the helper feature does not provide. In addition, while the arrows are great indicators of where to go, they don’t convey how fast or slow players must maneuver to overcome an obstacle. Slowing down time slows the entire screen, which includes the monkey as well. The problem with the helper mode is more often than not, it’s not very helpful. The time limit is doubled, you’ll gain the ability to slow down time, and directional arrows will display to help players show the ideal way to the goal. If a player falls out enough times, players can activate the helper mode. While hardcore fans might scoff at this change, the game is still ludicrously hard so this is a huge blessing. Players are free to fall out of the course over and over and not dread returning back to the beginning. The series is notorious for its rather harsh difficulty curve, but there are features that mitigate some of the stress. Players must weave around tricky turns, balance on narrow bridges, and many other devious traps. While it does start simple, the difficulty ramps up very quickly. Players don’t control the monkey but the entire maze, tilting so the monkey can roll to the desired location. Lead a monkey trapped in a ball to the goal gate at the end of the level. In the game’s main mode, the goal is simple. ![]() With its endless social media flair, this revival has garnered a lot of attention online, but is it warranted? For the most part, it is.īanana Mania is a combo pack of all the elements from both Super Monkey Ball and it’s sequel (with all the extra levels from Deluxe). Thankfully, Sega listened to me, and to commemorate the series’ 20th anniversary, we now have said remaster: Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania. When I reviewed Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD two years ago, my number one question was “why was this the entry to get the HD treatment?” The more logical approach would be to bring back the first couple of titles to the modern era. Quickdraw tent3/22/2023 The best pop up tents are self supporting, construct themselves, and pack down into their own bag. If you want simple, fast, and lightweight then a pop up tent is begging for your attention! Using carefully crafted steel wires, ingenious designs, and a healthy dose of modern engineering, pop up tents have become an excellent option for campers. You also get quickdraws with a stiffer dogbone which can be used as a makeshift clip stick. In a call for simpler tents that are easier and faster to set up, manufacturers have responded. This design is ideal for particularly important intermediate belay points, since the danger of an open load is greatly reduced. For example, quickdraws which feature locking carabiners at both ends. Special types of quickdrawĪs well as the oversized quickdraws mentioned above there are some other special designs. This further improves safety and makes clipping the climbing rope in the quickdraws even easier. They prevent the rope-side carabiner from twisting into the dogbone. ![]() Another practical detail to look out for is rubber keepers on the quickdraw. Nylon slings are also slightly wider and as a result often preferred by beginners and when checking out routes - they are much easier to grab hold of than thinner Dyneema quickdraws. Nylon is heavier, but less sensitive to UV radiation. Dyneema has the advantage of being much lighter and is used for quickdraws where keeping the weight to a minimum is the priority. Dyneema or nylon dogbones?Īnother question which inevitably comes up when buying quickdraws is that of the dogbone material. Whatever your personal preference it is easy to find the right quickdraw for you. Other quickdraws use a combination of different carabiners. Some quickdraws feature wire gate carabiners with a keylock-like system, which combine the advantages of both forms carabiner. They are also safer in so much as they are less susceptible to gate whiplash if the carabiner hits the rock, meaning they are less likely to undergo an "open gate" loading scenario. The advantage of this design is that the closure does not freeze together in icy temperatures. You can also find quickdraws equipped with wire gate carabiners. This significantly improves quickdraw handling. The advantage being that the nose of the carabiner cannot get hooked up on the bolt. Key lock carabiners have been used almost exclusively for the last few years. Classic variations have an all-aluminum non-locking carabiner at both the protection-end (the end that connects to the bolt) and the rope-end (the end that connects to the rope). Generally speaking, any common non-locking carabiner can be used for a quickdraw. The different types of carabiner for quickdraws The longest dogbones found on quickdraws are about 30 cm. Longer dogbones are used for multi-pitch alpine routes and very long sport climbing routes, where reducing rope friction is of increased importance. This length fulfills all of the important requirements without getting in the way on the belt too much. Quickdraws with a 12 cm dogbone have become standard for sport climbing. ![]() Quickdraws for mountaineering, multi-pitch alpine climbing and sport climbing Although the wide range of quickdraws may appear confusing at first, with a bit of experience you are sure to find the right product. Quickdraws act as an important link at anchor points and prevent the carabiner from twisting and causing dangerous transverse loads. ![]() They extend the carabiners at intermediate anchors in order to reduce rope friction. They consist of two non-locking carabiners connected by a dogbone. Quickdraws are sometimes known as extenders. Quickdraws are an essential piece of climbing and mountaineering equipment and should be included in any alpinist's basic gear. Quickdraws for sport climbing and mountaineering Rawdigger green raw convert3/22/2023 ![]() This whole introduction may seem trivial, but it is functional to what we will see later. By calculating this, we see how they are indeed 6 real stops of dynamic range and no more. ![]() In our case, the last EV of the shadows is not real information, but noise, as we can see from the jagged histogram. In doing this, however, you must be careful: while the highlights often end up in a wall, the tail of the shadows is longer. We also immediately know the range of the scene, counting the EVs covered by the histogram. In this case, we see how the photo is a little bit underexposed, which cannot be observed in the final result due to the low contrast of the scene. However, what we can immediately see is whether the exposure is correct. Basically, it is telling us where the sensor is more performing, but we will see later how to “squeeze” it best. In this case, the program centers the histogram around a value that corresponds to 3 stops less than where the machine burns the highlights. It is therefore essential to be able to read the graph in front of us well.įirst of all, we have to make sure that the EV Grid is centered on auto (4). We will no longer need the approximate JPEG previews to understand how the photo was exposed and what kind of interventions it needs. It gives us information on the RAW exposure for each of the color channels. Luckily for me, this scene was extremely easy to read, with the high sun illuminating Lisbon: in other words, it was hard to go wrong!įinally, we find perhaps the most important indication: the histogram. Right next to it, we can see if there are areas of the photo exposed incorrectly. This option is also possible by selecting individual channels. This allows us to immediately see the areas of the photo that are not correctly exposed. Right next to it we have the opportunity to check the over/under exposure option. Right from the start, the program allows us to separate the four channels of the RGB sensor, or rather RGGB since the green is repeated twice. In Display (2) we find “RGB render” as an option, but not the only one. However, without opening anything else, we immediately see confirmation of what was said before. There is also another mountain of information, useful if you intend to replicate the shot such as exposure and openings. First, we can take a peek at the EXIF (1) to better understand how and when the photo was taken. ![]() Once we open a RAW we have the opportunity to understand several things. Unfortunately, the program is not for free, but there is the possibility of doing a free trial, and that it is certainly not an expensive one. Approaching it and understanding its usefulness will be very useful, in particular for analyzing that atypical kind of RAW that is the X3F from Foveon sensors. No fear, because a fundamental program comes to our rescue: RawDigger. We can settle for this or try to investigate in person a little more thoroughly.īut the reader, like the writer, may not be an IT wizard. We will be able to see the result when it is finally converted to JPEG, but not before. The interpretation is never unambiguous: no matter how accurate, it will never objectively reflect the RAW. These, however, will give their understanding of what is underneath. So to understand what is hidden between those 0s and 1s, we just have to rely on the camera or the software. We understand how the preview is there to give us a visual reference instead of a chain of binary code. The pic we have taken for now is nothing more than a series of raw data, the RAW. ![]() It is there to give us an approximation of the photo we took. This something is only an approximation made by the camera or by the software. Nevertheless, we are in front of something. What we are looking at, however, are not real pictures, but the base from which we would go to extract our JPEGs. We watch RAW all the time, on the rear camera screen, like in the Photoshop preview. What are we looking at when we look at a RAW? This first point, apparently trivial, brings with it a not insignificant consequence. In themselves, RAWs are not better pictures, because… they are not pictures! They are a series of information from which a photo can be extracted, that final JPEG that we will display on the screen or print. “If you shoot RAW you get better photos” this is one of the mantras that the novice photographer hears himself repeated over and over.
